Swiss Father’s Day

Swiss Father’s Day

365 Reasons

365 Reasons

On the first Sunday in June of every year, we celebrate the Swiss Father’s Day. So it’s like Mother’s Day but reversed, right? Not exactly. Father’s Day is a holiday meant to teach us about the valuable contributions of fathers and motivate the latter to continue their caregiving work. Additionally, political advocacy happens on Father’s Day—to spread the message that fatherhood is more than just a challenging task for individual fathers.

Father’s Day 2016

2016 is the tenth anniversary of the Swiss Father’s Day. A series of events is planned for June 5, 2016. Companies are staging Father’s Day events, and it is becoming a tradition for many nurseries and kindergartens, nonprofits, and other organizations to organize special activities around Father’s Day. On this year’s Father’s Day, männer.ch/masculinities.ch will publicly launch the new national program MenCare Switzerland. We will provide more information about this topic shortly.

Father’s Day was launched in Switzerland in 2007. We are now part of the pool of countries with a comparable holiday—in many places, the tradition is more than 100 years old. Our slogan for the first Sunday of every June is “365 Reasons”. We use this day to help grow the conversation around the value of fatherly engagement in caregiving. Our advocacy work is lively, colorful, and increasingly effective in motivating people to reflect about what it takes to help more children benefit from the regular presence of their fathers in their lives. For sponsors and event partners, our activities around Father’s Day offer an innovative platform for positioning business as family-friendly employers.
